Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) (formerly known as Central Institute of Plastics Engineering & Technology (CIPET)) was established in 1968 by Government of India with the assistance of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) at Chennai. The main objective of setting up of this specialized institute was to develop manpower in different disciplines of Plastics Engineering & Technology as no similar institute was in existence in the country. International Labour Organization (ILO) served as the executing agency. During the initial project period between 1968 and 1973, the institute achieved the targets envisaged and was rated as one of the most successful UNDP projects implemented worldwide. Today CIPET is a premier Academic institution for higher & technical education under the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Govt. of India fully devoted in all the domains of plastics viz:- Design, CAD/CAM/CAE, Tooling & Mould Manufacturing, Production Engineering, Testing and Quality Assurance. CIPET operates from various locations spread across the country to cater the needs of the Polymer and allied industries.

Post-independence, it became a matter of concern that Plastic Engineering & Technology was a growing science and yet there was not enough human resource to meet the demand. Imperative need was felt to establish CIPET -- the unique institute of its kind in the country and even today the institute holds a premier position. The primary objective of CIPET has been contributing towards the growth of the plastics industry through a combined program of education and research. The Institute has evolved through the years, creating closer ties with industries with the intent to create innovative plastic based solutions which are resource efficient and marketable. From our first location in Chennai, we now have 39 locations in 22 States and few more are in the process of Establishment. Over the span of 50 years, CIPET has been recognized for our work with a large number of industry clients for our Technology Support Services in the areas of design, tooling, plastics processing and testing and quality assurance. This includes governmental agencies as well as public and private sector industries, both in India and abroad.

Admission

ADMISSION PROCEDURE - DIPLOMA PROGRAMS

Your journey towards a diploma in Plastics technology from CIPET begins right here. We are looking for talented students from all backgrounds. If you have the ability and the commitment to make the most of the opportunities offered at our centres of education located right around the country, then we want to hear from you.

Applicants who are interested in our diploma programs can check details for the specific course. Every course has a dedicated web page containing entry requirements as well as other useful information.

HOW TO APPLY

If you have completed your 10th standard or equivalent, you are eligible to apply for the diploma courses at any of the CIPET centres. Age is not a criteria. Similarly for the Post Graduate Diplomas there is an eligibility requirement of a 3 year degree or diploma course with relevant subjects. Admission to all CIPET Diploma & Post Diploma and Post Graduate Diploma, courses are carried out through an online admission system. Applicants need to sit for the all India Computer Based Test (CBT) JEE. Selection is based on performance in the Joint Entrance Examination.

In case you are sitting for your entry qualification exam, you can still apply. Your selection and admission will be based on successful completion and submission of certificates by the stipulated date.

Successful candidates selected for the course will be provided a provisional admission through a call letter. The candidate must accept the allotment of admission within the stipulated date else the admission will be cancelled and a wait listed candidate will be allotted the academic seat.

PLACEMENT
Every student who joins a course in Plastics Engineering and Technology is already thinking of their career. A good first job is an important step that will shape their future path. The training and placement cell at CIPET recognizes this and ensures our students are suitably placed by inviting various companies for on-campus recruitment in their final year. Many multinational and national companies visit our campus every year to fill their requirements for highly trained resources.

OUR PLACEMENT RECORD
CIPET takes great pride in announcing that we consistently achieve more than 90% placement record which is inclusive of job placement, higher studies and entrepreneurship. Our continuous and systematic interaction with the Petrochemicals / Plastics industries and allied industries results in many small scale to large scale industries approaching us for their skilled manpower needs at all levels.

THE PLACEMENT PROCESS
The students who are in their final year of study and are interested in availing the services of our placement cell will have to register themselves. We conduct career guidance sessions for our students, right at the beginning stages once they have registered, to make them aware of their options. This helps our placement cell to get a 'right fit' when it comes to the on-campus placements.

Training programs like mock interviews, group discussions and communication skills training equips our students with the confidence for the recruitment process.

Hostel

All Centres have hostel facilities to accommodate outstation students. You will need to check with each centre's accommodation facilities for boys and girls hostels. The hostels are self-contained with amenities such as internet room, gym, lounge and dining hall. Continuous water supply and power back up is provided. The CIPET hostels are highly secure and only authorized personnel are allowed inside.

 

HOSTEL FEES

Hostel room rent including all amenities: Rs.10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand only) per candidate/semester (will be collected in advance).
Hostel mess fee will be extra and charged as per actual on monthly basis.
Caution Money Deposit (Refundable):Rs.1000/-(to be paid at the time of hostel admission).
