Hemchandracharya North Gujarat University (HNGU) is a Public Sector University established in 1986. It is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is NAAC 'A' accredited state university with a CGPA of 3.02. The University has 244 affiliated colleges across the state. It offers several UG, PG, Diploma, Certificate and Doctorate courses in various subjects of Arts, Science, Commerce, Architecture and Management.

Admission to BA, B.COM, B.ED, BBA, BCA, BLIBLSC, BJMB, BRS, BSW, LLB and bsc is offered on the basis of marks obtained in class 12 examination.  (1) For BArch, the candidates have to qualify in NATA conducted at All India level (2).B.P.Ed and B.Ed admission is offered on the basis of marks in university-based entrance test.(3) Admission to MA, M.Com, MCA, MSW and PG Diploma courses is based on the marks obtained in Graduation.
